Pepperell, MA is a small community of 11,000 on the Massachusetts and New Hampshire border. The town has been home to a covered bridge since 1847, spanning the Nashua River. The current bridge is only 2 years young, and reopened in 2010 as the Prudence Wright Memorial Bridge. It is the only covered bridge in Massachusetts serving local traffic (cars, bicycles and pedestrians). The bridge has been included for many years in scenic routes, and we are delighted with the opportunity to highlight it as part of a race.
The Friends of Pepperell Recreation, where race proceeds will be donated, is a local non-profit organization, whose mission is to promote community involvement for the betterment of the Pepperell community, its citizens and its recreational facilities. The Friends of Pepperell Recreation is currently working on bringing a perimeter paved track to the town field, to support use for running, walking, inline skating, and other similar uses. The track is expected to be approximately 1/3 to 1/2 mile long.
